I've been playing with natural dyes off and on for a year, and now I'm going to get serious about it, and make some for sale. These were dyed August 12th (new moon!) - the rich gold ones were pot-dyed with onion skins and copper mordant, and the blue ones are from my neighbor's certified organic purple basil plants, with alum mordant. Aren't they awesome?!?!

This one is dyed with RUST! The advantage (i guess?) of having an old farm, is that you constantly find rusty stuff! So I've taken advantage of this, and used the interesting rusty stuff we find to make gorgeous, rust-dyed scarves and hankies. This one is displayed on an old John Deere seeder we found on our farm!
