So, I am newly in love with pizza. I have been making my own pizza crust (half whole wheat), which really is very easy. I have been making pizza sauce with the rapidly-dwindling stash of garden tomatoes from my freezer, and generous amounts of dried herbs from my garden. I have even been making the mozzarella cheese. I really have to figure thisout, as my cheese it not yet perfect (the texture is a little wonky). Any cheesemakers around that can give me advice? Maybe there is a yahoo group for cheesemakers I can join, or something. but anyway.... this entirely homeade pizza is so freaking good i cannot believe it. Last night, I did a sautee of reconstitued dried morels (we have a friend that gathers and dries them every year and they are AMAZING), garlic, and kale, and put that on the pizza and I think it was one of the best meals I ever ate.
I really do love cooking - eating local, natural foods really has improved the quality of meals around here and drastically reduced the amount of money spent on food. A VERY good thing all-around.
in other news. I've been dyeing with Madder root - my GOSH that stuff is incredible. I have used the same roots for about 5 dyepots now....i've done silk, 1 full pound of roving, 4 skeins of yarn, and it's still going strong. Picures will be forthcoming.....
